What it is
This is not a generic baseline rally forehand. The ball is short. The answer is to run through it, hit heavy topspin, and keep the feet moving after contact so recovery is already underway if the ball comes back.
- A weak slice that stays in the point but surrenders initiative.
- The slide-into-the-ball pattern that plants the outside foot and delays the first recovery step.
Two directions

When to hit it
Hit this ball when it is short, when there is room to run through, and when the opponent is not already covering the target. Do not hunt it from a deep, heavy ball — that is when the slice or a safe rally ball is still the right play.
The misses
- Long: face too open or contact too late.
- Into the alley: the path crossed the ball instead of traveling through the target.
- Short and sit-up: not enough forward extension before the wrap — the miss that most punishes this tactic.
